How do I donate through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) or Charitable Gift Fund?
MDM regularly receives grants recommended by donors through donor-advised funds (DAFs) and charitable giving funds, including Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Bank of America Charitable Gift Fund, National Philanthropic Trust, and PayPal Giving Fund. These gifts arrive from the sponsoring organization rather than directly from the donor, which changes how they are receipted and designated.
The donor recommends a grant through their fund's online portal. The sponsoring organization then sends MDM a grant notification and transfers the funds, sometimes on a delay and sometimes through a separate payment portal rather than a direct deposit. Recurring Fidelity Charitable grant reports, for example, arrive on their own schedule independent of MDM's normal donation processing.
Making sure the gift reaches the right missionaryGrant notifications from a DAF sponsor frequently lack the contact detail or context needed to confirm intent. MDM advises donors recommending a DAF grant to a specific missionary to also email support@modernday.org directly, naming the missionary and the gift amount, so MDM can match the incoming grant to the correct designation once it arrives.
MDM issues a separate acknowledgement letter to the donor for the grant; not a tax deductible receipt.
If a donor believes a DAF gift is missing - Please first confirm whether the sponsoring organization's grant report shows the gift as sent, and check whether it routes through a delayed payment portal rather than a same-day deposit. Many DAF and giving-fund gifts take longer to post than a direct credit card donation, so a short delay may be likely.
